Dear guests of the Green town of Bulgaria, Dear participants and organisers of the Second Balkan Mountain Running Championships Teteven 2009, Welcome to the proud and hospitable Teteven! We, the citizens of Teteven, are honored to welcome the best mountain runners of the Balkans. In Teteven - the green pearl of Stara Planina - the unique nature and the event of mountain running are gathering, connecting and uniting us to build friendship among people and nations. I wish all the athletes from the 10 Balkan countries good health, high spirits, chance for victory. And minutes of shared delight of the beautiful Teteven nature, for which the great Bulgarian statesman Petko Karavelov once said:''I've traveled all over Bulgaria, I've seen all it's picturesque spots, but none of them can compete the loveliness of Teteven and its surroundings. The valley is exceptional not only for Bulgaria''. I salute the start of the Balkan Mountain Running Championships, which initiates the candidature of Teteven for hosting the World Mountain Running Championships 2011. May the most worthy win on 31 May!
