| The first edition
of the Balkan championships in Mountain Running represents a great
development for our sport. All those involved with this initiative
are to be congratulated, especially the organisers of this years event,
the Bulgarian Athletic Federation. WMRA offer their full support and encouragement. I hope that all the effort involved is rewarded by a good entry from each of the Balkan countries all of whom enjoy wonderful mountains in which to practice this special form of endurance athletics. Sport should be of great assistance in fostering friendly relations between peoples of all nations. I am conscious of the troubled history of the Balkan region so may this event contribute a little to bringing harmony to all its peoples. |
